What I expect of my students is what I expect of myself- and that is as Alvin Toffler said, “…learn, unlearn, and relearn.”
My teaching methods generally consist of student centered activities that promote group collaboration and empowered individual development. I provide activities and assignments to students with a set of expectations and criteria guidelines, while strongly encouraging innovation, collaboration and the utilization of multiple resources. A few ISTE standards for students which have been the most important to me thus far are: The Empowered Learner, The Creative Communicator, and the Global Collaborator.
I would like to improve my general knowledge of multimedia in the classroom to provide relevant and appropriate applications, forums, and other resources to the students which they will be able to use beyond the classroom. I’d like to enhance the students’ opportunities to apply communicative skills using multimedia. I hope that I’ll not only become familiar with the latest tech tools and programs used to support student learning, but to become savvy enough to distinguish those which best suit my methods and the students’ needs.
I believe this multimedia course with Steve Katz will help me recognize how technological enhancements in the classroom can efficiently support student learning, and when it may do just the opposite. I am also eager to learn new sites and programs for professional development by networking and joining forums with other teachers around the world.
